Oster blenders are rated as some of the best food grinding appliances in the world, and for several great reasons, starting with their unmatched performance, durability and versatility.

Blenders from the Oster stable do tend to have a few issues, most notably Oster blender leaking from bottom.

Even though this is a common problem with Oster blenders, especially models that have been in use for a long period of time, there are a few ways to fix the issue.

There are several reasons why your Oster blender is leaking from the bottom including a damaged O-ring or gasket, or the jar itself.

Sometimes blade assembly also causes leakage from your blender.

If blade assembly may not set up correctly or it may not right fit for your respective blender model.

That said, here’s a closer look at why your Oster blender may be leaking, and how to repair your appliance.

Why is My Oster Blender Leaking from Bottom?

The blade assembly is perhaps the most important and used part of your Oster blender, because it basically does all the work.

Oster blender blade assemblies typically contain several components including the blade, bearings, washers, sealing ring, and most importantly the gasket, which in most cases is the culprit of leakage from its base.

The sealing ring is located right above the blade of your Oster blender, and may be compromised, due to regular use, and wear and tear.

If you’ve replaced your Oster blender blade assembly recently, you may have not set it up correctly, and/or not purchased the right fit for your respective model.

Speaking of which, you should always buy authentic replacement parts, preferably from a reputed dealer for your Oster blender.

Most generic parts are not designed specifically for your Oster blender model, so great chances are that they will fail quickly, and cause leaks or other worse issues.

And if you install flimsy, unauthentic replacement parts, you also risk voiding the manufacturer warranty in case things go awry, whether it’s a leak from the bottom or motor blowout.

Most, if not all Oster blender gaskets do come with some level of seal protection, which can get worn out over time.

Just like the sealing ring, the Oster blender gasket that sits on the edge of the jar tends to weaken over time, but on a brighter note can be replaced easily.

Another common reason for your Oster blender leaking fluids from the bottom is the jar itself, which again does have many small parts attached to it.

The mid screw of the jar that is connected with the blade may come lose at times, causing the appliance to leak.

These screws can become rusty, causing the sealing to break off, and leak the contents below.

Oster blender jars should be assembled properly, and set tight on the base.

The jar of an Oster blender has tabs on the collar, which if in the wrong position could cause leaks from the bottom.

And one of the non-technical reasons that is often overlooked when determining why your Oster blender is leaking is overfilling the jar.

Given that some Oster blender models come with large size jars, you don’t necessarily have to fill them up to the rim.

How to Fix Oster Blender Leaking from Bottom?

Now that you’re aware of the issues that can cause your Oster blender to leak from the bottom, here’s a few proven ways to make things right.

Fix or Replace Gasket

If your Oster blade assembly is damaged, you’ve got two options — fix or replace it. Of course, choosing the latter means that you have to buy a new compatible blade assembly, but you may not have to if the parts are repairable.

Getting to the gasket first, it is located right under the blade assembly.

To remove the gasket, detach the glass jar including the plastic part, and set it aside.

Next, flip over the glass jar with the back portion on the top, and you should notice a black, circular ring attached to the bottom.

The gasket aka ring should come off easily with a couple nudges, but if it’s stuck to the bottom, you can use a butter knife or any unsharp tool such as a screwdriver to gently remove it.

After you remove the gasket, inspect it carefully for stuck food items, and wear and tear.

Food can easily get stuck in the rim of the gasket, and cause the Oster blender to leak from the bottom.

If you notice any dirt or food stuck, grab a sponge and some soapy water, scrub the gasket, and then rinse off with fresh water under the sink.

Once you’ve washed the gasket, check to see if there are any signs of damage to the rubber.

If you see a small number of nicks in the gasket, you can reinstall it into the appliance. But, for gaskets with a noticeable amount of wear and tear, replacement is probably your best bet.

You can buy a set of replacement gaskets fairly cheap, and replace the damaged one quickly.

To reinstall the gasket, whether a new or same old one, put a little dish soap on the black ring to help screw it in tight without binding.

After you insert the gasket, wash the bottom of the blender under the sink to get rid of the dish soap, and set aside to dry.

Blade Assembly

Even though Oster blade assemblies consist of several parts — bearings, etc., they can’t be taken apart, so you will have to replace the entire assembly if faulty.

Similar to replacing or fixing the gasket, turn the blender jar over, and lay it on a flat surface.

Remove the gasket, unscrew the container bottom, and detach the blade assembly. Before replacing the blade assembly, check it for dirt, and get rid of it with an unsharp tool, and then wash it thoroughly.

Screw the blade assembly back into the jar, place it on the base, and screw it on tight. Turn on the blender to check if it’s still leaking from the bottom.

If there are absolutely no leaks, not even a single drop, then your blender is good to go.

But since even small leaks can turn into big ones really fast, you will have to replace the blade assembly if you notice any.

To replace the Oster blender blade assembly, unplug the appliance from the power source, flip it over, and repeat the aforementioned process.

Make sure you replace the damaged blade assembly with a genuine product or else it may not function properly, or may cause further damage to the appliance.

Leaking Jar

There are two parts to your Oster blender jar — the glass portion, and blender jar bottom.

Check the blender bottom to ensure it is free of any damage if it’s screwed on tightly to the glass part.

If it’s damaged, you can replace it with a new Oster blender jar bottom, or tighten it if lose.

Inspecting the glass portion of the jar can be a bit tricky, as some of the cracks aren’t clearly visible upon first glance.

Fill the jar with water up to the top, and let it sit on the countertop.

Wait 10 minutes or so, and if you notice that the amount of water in the glass has reduced, it is best to replace it with a new Oster blender glass jar.

Why does My Oster Blender Leak Black Liquid? How to Fix it?

There may be instances where your Oster blender may be leaking black liquid, which is a combination of the food you blend and lubricant.

This happens when you put the blender in the dishwasher or soak it for too long, which causes excessive wear on the bearing in the blending assembly, forcing the black lubrication to leak out.

You can resolve the issue by washing the bottom of the blender with warm water, rinsing well, and then setting to dry.

Further, you should remove the gasket, as that’s where most of the liquid and grime will be stuck, wash, and reinstall.
